What is the Tom Barrow Brugada Trust?

In November 2023, driving his family home from church, Tom Barrow suffered a cardiac arrest. Aged 38 he died in hospital five days later. Unbeknown to Tom he had a rare, inherited heart condition – Brugada Syndrome.

Tom was a loving husband, an adored Daddy and a GWR train driver, a job he loved.

Six months later Tom’s family set up the Tom Barrow Brugada Trust. Its aims are to raise awareness of this condition and promote and support research into its causes, diagnosis and treatment.

What is Brugada Syndrome?

Named after the academic research begun in the 1980s by the Spanish Cardiologist, Professor Pedro Brugada, Brugada Syndrome is a rare condition that affects the electrical messages which control your heart rate.

It can be life-threatening for some, as it was for Tom. However with the right treatment the risks can be controlled and the condition managed.
